About Ryes Farm Barns

Tim & Nicola have lived in Suffolk for just about 30 years now, enjoying the good food and drink Suffolk is awash with. There are Artisan butchers, bakers and markets at which you will often find us looking for new ingredients to cook with.

Our children are James and Johnny who love the country life and rugby.

We also have 2 dogs, O’Toole and Oscar and our cats Ruby, Maple and Molly. And not forgetting our 14 chickens providing us with the most amazing fresh eggs daily. And the many wild birds and fauna inhabiting the fields and hedgerows around us.

Ryes Farm was bought by us in 2019 from the Helmingham Hall Estate who purchased it around 1730 and kept it as a tenanted farm. Now for the first time in nearly 300 years it is in private hands again and we are gradually carrying out a programme of sensitive renovation to all the buildings.

Surrounded by fields, there has been occupation thought to have been on or near this site for as far back as Roman times with many archaeological finds too.

When we bought the farm, we started a process of clearing around 70 Leylandi and Poplar trees that covered nearly every inch of the site. In fact, much of the construction timber that form the roof and walls in the Cowshed are from those very trees which we had milled and seasoned on site.

We hope you will enjoy the peace and quiet, the big skies and amazing walks.

Best Regards
Tim & Nicola
